Hollywood Hostel
Positioned along the iconic Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood, this proposal envisions a contemporary hostel that fosters cultural exchange, supports creative expression, and contributes to the evolving urban fabric of Los Angeles. Located at a high-visibility intersection, the project is conceived as both a hospitality venue and an urban landmark that amplifies local identity.
The design strategy centers on the operative term “stacking,” which informed both the spatial organization and formal development of the project. By vertically layering programmatic elements, the design generates a series of semi-private courtyards and terraces—moments of retreat and respite within the density of the urban environment. These outdoor voids function as social condensers, offering guests a quiet counterpoint to the city's intensity while encouraging informal interaction.
At the street level, the hostel engages the public realm with transparency and permeability, blurring boundaries between interior and exterior. The facade serves a dual function: as an armature for curated digital and print advertisements that reflect the dynamic culture of Los Angeles, and as a canvas for rotating works by local artists. In this way, the building becomes a living exhibition space—celebrating the city’s creative energy and positioning itself as a visual and cultural anchor in a high-traffic corridor.
Through a synthesis of urban strategy, environmental responsiveness, and community integration, the project aspires to redefine the hostel typology—not only as a place of temporary stay but as a platform for cultural immersion and architectural storytelling.
