Completed during my studies at El Camino College, this project involved the development of comprehensive construction documents for a proposed vertical addition to an existing single-family residence. The design called for a second-story expansion that would meet the evolving needs of the homeowners while maintaining architectural cohesion with the existing structure.
The upper-level addition introduces a master suite and a private office—designed as a secluded retreat for the homeowners. This new floor redefines the spatial hierarchy of the home, creating a clear distinction between private and communal zones while enhancing the functionality of the layout.
With the relocation of the primary bedroom suite to the upper floor, the first level was reprogrammed to include a dedicated guest room, offering comfortable accommodations for visiting friends and family. The expansion not only increases livable space but also improves the overall adaptability and long-term usability of the home.
This project emphasized technical rigor in the creation of detailed construction documents, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and structural coordination. Beyond technical execution, the project also underscored key architectural principles such as spatial planning, privacy gradients, and contextual sensitivity—skills that were foundational to my education at El Camino College.
